Call for Papers

Workshop on Systems and Architectures for Computer Assisted Interventions (MICCAI 2009, Imperial College, London, UK)

Where: South Kensington Campus, Imperial College London
When: 9.00 am – 5.30 pm, Thursday, September 24, 2009

The goal of this workshop is to establish a forum for discussing open interfaces, interoperability, and standards for the development of computer assisted intervention systems. This topic was chosen based on overwhelming interest expressed at the “Systems and Architectures” workshop at MICCAI 2008 in New York City. The workshop will also accept related submissions, such as those describing the development or use of open source toolkits for computer assisted interventions.

The workshop on systems and architectures for computer assisted interventions (SACAI) aims to provide a forum for discussing open interfaces, interoperability, and standards for the development of computer assisted intervention systems. The workshop extends the successful dialog at the “Systems and Architectures” workshop at MICCAI 2008 in New York City. The 2008 workshop focused on toolkits. The current 2009 edition emphasizes the importance of open interfaces and standards as they will be the key factors towards better interoperability, resulting in more innovative and reliable solutions. As in previous editions, this workshop will include strong participation from industry and academia.

Topics for presentation and discussion at the workshop will include challenges for research interfaces to commercial systems (e.g., regulatory, liability), the progress and status of formal standardization efforts (e.g., DICOM, CANopen, and ISO 11073) as well as efforts in the research community (e.g., OpenIGTLink and SAW), opportunities for further integration and interoperability, and discussion of successes and unmet needs.

Submissions must include at least an abstract, but may be up to 8 pages in Midas Journal format. Papers will be reviewed by the workshop committee and accepted papers will be included in a special issue of the Midas Journal.

PAPERS/ABSTRACTS DUE: JULY 15, 2009
FINAL SUBMISSION: AUG. 15, 2009
NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE: JULY 22, 2009
WORKSHOP DATE: SEPT. 24, 2009

Papers should be submitted online via the Midas Journal. A special issue has been created for this workshop. This is a private issue, so papers will not be made public unless they are accepted for the workshop. This allows authors to submit their papers elsewhere if not accepted. A PDF version of this call for participation is available here.
